Is Squint hereditary?

Squint can be hereditary or familial but it cannot be detected during pregnancy and in theory, it is not clear until 6 months of age. Squint itself is not a disease but a sign & symptom of something more.

Some types of squints can run in families, so if a parent has had a squint or needed glasses from an early age, there may be an increased chance that their child may also be affected. The way squint may be inherited is not yet fully understood.

This is why it is very important to check every child's vision as soon as possible by 3 years of age and earlier if a child has a family history of eyeglasses or squint in parents or siblings or as soon as the child shows certain symptoms.

PEDIA VISION Children Eye Care offers holistic eye care for children from birth through adolescence with special services like binocular vision assessment, Vision therapy, and Dynamic and dilated retinoscopy in even non-verbal kids to diagnose their refractive errors.
